Elmer the Elephant

We are learning about repeating patterns in Maths.

On Friday we read the story Elmer in the Snow by David McKee.
Elmer is an elephant who has a colourful body, with yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, black and white arranged as a patchwork.  We made our own patchwork elephants with lots of different patterns using paint and sponges. They certainly are very colourful!
What patterns can you see?

Come and check out our display.
See if you can find the answer to some of our Maths problems about Elmer!

Lest We Forget

At Ashley School we have a proud tradition
to remember The Fallen and
every year we gather with our community in our school hall.

Today we worked together to create
 sand saucer arrangements
to place at the Cenotaph across the road from school.

Several of our lovely Mums helped us.

We thank you for your time.

Another group of helpers made fabulous wreaths for the older children to lay.

We held our remembrance assembly.

We heard how the Bugle was used during the war.
Later at the Cenotaph the Bugler played The Last Post.
A member of the RSA recited the Ode of Remembrance

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!

Welcome to Term 2

We are back and are
 busy...
 busy....
 busy....
busy!

Mondays are now our busiest day of the week.
Swimming after an early lunch and then
hopping back on the bus and heading to Gymnastics.

Not to worry though, we are learning so much.
Algebra and Number are our Maths topics this term.
Repeated patterns can be made with many things.
 and in many ways.

We are very proud of our patterns.

Writing is another important topic this term.

We are trying to write more ideas over two days!!!
Bellbirds are very clever.

This weeks words are:

Tino pai, (well  done) Bellbirds. What a great start to the term.

Happy "Hoppy" Easter

Today was so much fun.
We made lots of very different Easter things.

Easter eggs were popular.

So were the Easter baskets.

Using the forks to paint Easter chicks was fun.

Then the Easter Bunny masks!
Some of us wore them on our Treasure Hunt.

We needed to listen very carefully
to the instructions before we set off to find our treasure.

We hopped along behind Mrs.R.

Clues were everywhere!
Even hidden amongst the corn!

Our friends were supportive when we needed help to read the clues.

It is good to know that we can work together to solve problems.

At the end of the hunt we found?
Yes you guessed correctly...
yummy Easter eggs to add to our Easter baskets.

The Bellbirds wish you all a Happy Easter and well earned break.
Have fun and come back to school ready to learn again.

The Journey of the Potatoes.

Late last term we planted Agria potatoes.
Over the summer break
Mrs. Standen came to school most days
and took care of the garden.
She made sure everything was well watered during the Summer heat.
Today we dug the potatoes.

Cooper is particularly proud of the results as he helped with the planting.
The spuds are huge!

Aaron's Mum Melanie helped us to chip them.
We added herbs from the school garden to give more flavour.
We sprinkled salt and oil over and then cooked them.

The smell was delicious.

We shared with Room 4
as they were in our class
when we planted these amazing potatoes.

Fynn thought they were superb.

A huge thank you to ...
Lesley Ottey for donating the seed potatoes,
Mrs Standen for taking care of the potato patch over the Summer,
and to Melanie for helping us to become Master "Spud" chefs.
