Always a hoot!

This week we began our inquiry learning about Owls!
Some of us already know quite a bit and have been great at sharing our ideas with others!

We used our white hats to find facts out about owls.  We watched a
youtube video about owls  and  read some school  library books to help us find some information.

I wonder what we might find out next?
Do you have any questions about owls?

Check out the cool torn paper owls we made for Art.
We were very careful to do our best job.  They look terrific!

The dress ups caused quite a lot of excitement at Discovery Time today.  We haven't had them out in a while and they were so, so popular.  We were very responsible and remembered to look after them and put them away at the end of Discovery.  We will have them out again very soon!

And yet another proud Bellbird!
Most improved player at rugby  this week!

Future Clean Greenies!

Today we planted a new garden area in front of our rooms.

We were helped by the  'Clean Greenies'.
They showed us how to prepare for planting
and how to place the plants successfully into the ground.

Thank you to Mrs Standen for organising this.
Thank you to for the 'Greenies' who were very patient with us.
The Bellbirds feel excited to have such a nice garden space.
We will take responsibility for caring for this newly planted area.

Interesting Discoveries Today...

We are often faced with interesting challenges.
Today we found out how to make small explosions
using water, vinegar and baking soda.
Thanks to Joel for his idea.

When we made boats using walnut shells we found that they didn't always float!
Why?
Where were we going wrong?
Too much weight with the playdough?
Mast too tall?
Sails too big or small?
Bellbirds always persevere!
Eventually we got them to float!

Next we were challenged to make paper planes that would fly.
How will we fold them?
Will they look like a plane?
Could we get them to fly a reasonable distance?
Would they be competitive in the big "Fly Off"?

Late this afternoon some of us competed against other children
to see how far our planes would fly.
What a lot of fun.
A lot of cheering and clapping.
Thanks to the Senior boys who made the competition possible.

Another challenge today was to blow ping pong balls
through the paint using straws.
Well! Mmmmm!
The paint was thick!
We didn't seem to have enough puff?
What solution did these Bellbirds come up with?
Yes you guessed. Just roll the balls over the paper.

Bellbirds enjoy challenging themselves.

Kids Can Cook!!!

Oh yes they can!

I think a picture tells a thousand words here don't you??

The Bellbirds got to learn about French food today.

Crepes.

We ate crepes with grated apple, chopped kale and chard inside.
Most of us really liked it.

It was very new to all of us, but we also enjoyed learning about New Zealand kai (food).

Well done Isaac!!

Well done Isaac!!

What a proud little Bellbird this one is.

Player of the day for his soccer team.

We loved seeing your trophy.

Thank you so much for bringing it to share with us.
